The State Security Committee (KGB) of Belarus expects an escalation of the situation along the perimeter of Belarus. This was announced by the chairman of the department Ivan Tertel, transmits BelTA.
“We predict a significant escalation of the situation along the perimeter of our country,” he said.
Tertel noted that such an assessment is primarily associated with “military operations in the southern direction”, as well as with attempts by foreign individuals, organizations and special services to destabilize the situation inside the republic. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko instructed to submit proposals for responding to the mentioned challenges, the head of the KGB concluded.
Earlier, Lukashenka has repeatedly stated that the West is preparing to invade the territory of Belarus. “The formation of certain regiments, banners, legions for the subsequent coup in Belarus is in full swing. The time will come – we will lay it all out for you, – said he during a message to the Belarusian people and parliament. The Belarusian leader stressed that the authorities would respond to attack attempts “symmetrically, adequately.”
In October 2022 Lukashenka arguedthat Kyiv is working on opening a second front on the border with the republic. In January, the President of Belarus toldthat Minsk was offered to conclude a non-aggression pact on Ukraine. At the same time, Ukraine continues to be armed, which creates a potential threat to the security of the republic, he added.
In February of this year, Lukashenka declaredthat the republic “is by no means going to send its troops to the territory of Ukraine.” At the same time, he added, if aggression from Kyiv follows, then Minsk’s response “will be the most severe.”
