The price ceiling for Russian oil will not affect crude oil produced under the project “Sakhalin-2“. About it says from the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

As noted in the statement, Japan joined the restriction of prices for Russian oil, however, raw materials produced under the Sakhalin-2 project will not fall under this measure. The diplomatic mission explained that the exception was introduced to ensure Japan’s energy security.

It is clarified that the ceiling price for oil will not apply to deliveries, contracts for which were concluded before December 5, provided that the oil is shipped in Japan before January 19, 2023.

Effective December 5 entered a ban on the supply of Russian oil by sea to the EU countries. In addition, a price ceiling was introduced for Russian energy resources at $60 per barrel. This restriction was approved by the G7 countries, as well as the EU countries and Australia.

The price limit discussion went on for a week. Initially, the European Commission (EC) proposed a ceiling of $65 per barrel, but the Baltic countries and Poland considered this limit too “generous”. Thus, Warsaw insisted on a price limit of $30 per barrel. At the same time, Greece and Malta opposed the introduction of a ceiling below $70 per barrel. On November 23, negotiations reached an impasse, Bloomberg wrote. As a result, the EU countries managed to agree only on December 3.

The Kremlin has repeatedly stressed that Russia will not supply energy to countries that join the price ceiling. After the restriction was established, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov informedthat Moscow will not accept the introduction of a ceiling on Russian oil. According to him, preparations have already been made for this decision.
