The IPCC reminded about criminal liability for obstructing elections

Deputy Chairman of the Moscow City Election Commission (MGEC) Dmitry Reut recalled criminal liability for obstructing elections.

As he noted in an interview with the Moscow City News Agency, an anomaly was identified in the data on the attachment of voters to individual polling stations within the framework of the “Mobile Voter”. Reut explained that on average about 150 people are attached to one polling station in Moscow, but about 20 polling stations were found in which 2-3 thousand voters were attached.

“We do not exclude the possibility that this anomalous activity is aimed at preparing uncoordinated protest actions at these polling stations,” said the deputy head of the IPCC. He admitted that these persons could create queues at polling stations and prepare provocations in order to impede the expression of the will of citizens.

“Such acts may constitute a crime, criminal liability for which is provided for in Part 2 of Article 141 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation,” Reut warned, adding that the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to five years.

At the same time, the Deputy Chairman of the IPCC drew attention to the fact that public order will be protected on voting days both at the polling stations and around them. In addition, video surveillance is organized at all sites.

“Therefore, any attempts at provocation will be immediately recorded and suppressed,” concluded Dmitry Reut.
