The IOC suspended the Russian Olympic Committee due to new regions

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has suspended the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) due to the inclusion of new regions in the organization’s Olympic councils, said IOC Communications Director Mark Adams.
He explained that the IOC considers the inclusion of the Olympic Councils of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions in the ROC a violation of the Olympic Charter, since it “violates the territorial integrity of Ukraine.”
“OCR has been suspended effective immediately until further notice. The ROC can no longer act as the National Olympic Committee and receive funds from the IOC,” Adams explained (quote according to RIA Novosti).
Executive Committee of the ROC accepted the decision to include the Olympic councils of new regions on October 5.
Regarding the admission of Russian athletes to participate in the Olympics in Paris in 2024, Adams notedthat the IOC reserves the right to make a decision at “the appropriate time.”
After the start of the special operation, the IOC recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes should not be allowed to compete, but on March 28, 2023, they announced a easing of measures. Athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus will be able to participate in international competitions under a neutral flag. Restrictions will remain for those athletes who compete in team sports, as well as those who support the official position of the Russian and Belarusian authorities on Ukraine. The IOC promised to make a decision on the possibility of admitting Russians to the Olympic Games in Paris on a separate basis.
