The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) did not allow the Russian team to qualify for the 2024 Olympics. About it says on the organization’s website.
“The FIBA Executive Committee has decided not to register the Russian men’s team for the 2023 Olympic pre-qualification tournaments,” the federation’s press service said. The representative office noted that instead of the Russian team, the Bulgarian team will take part in the tournaments, as “the next European team with the best rating.”
At the end of February, FIBA announced that the decision on the participation of the men’s team in the selection for the Olympics in Paris would be made on April 28. Pre-qualification tournaments are scheduled for August 12-20, after which the five best teams will have the opportunity to play in the qualification tournaments for the Olympics.
On January 25, the IOC voted for the return of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions in a neutral status. This week, IOC President Thomas Bach said that the organization supports the admission of athletes in a neutral status, however, for this, athletes must not support the IOC and not be associated with the Russian and Belarusian armed forces or national security agencies. In particular, they will only be able to participate in individual sports.

In addition, the Executive Committee decided to propose to the IOC to soften the criteria “allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international competitions, especially with regard to athletes working under contract with military organizations.”
