The IMF announced a decrease in the impact of the conflict in Ukraine on global inflation

The impact of the conflict in Ukraine on rising inflation around the world, including increases in food and energy prices, has weakened significantly, said Julie Kozak, director of communications for the International Monetary Fund (IMF). According to her, this happened as a result of measures taken by the central banks of the countries.

“Surges in food and energy prices have led to a global cost of living crisis, and low-income countries have been hit hardest, especially by soaring food prices. Since then we have seen a global easing of these very significant inflationary pressures,” Ms Kozak said at briefing.

At the same time, Julie Kozak noted that the influence of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict on the global economy still remains. Due to the ongoing conflict, the prospects for Ukraine’s economy remain uncertain, Ms. Kozak added. Risks increase due to delays in external financing.

In February, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Kristalina Georgieva notedthat the world economy has proven to be “surprisingly resilient” to geopolitical crises and the consequences of regional conflicts. Growth rates exceeded expectations in 2023, and global core inflation is projected to decline in 2024. The average growth prospects for the global economy remain at 3% per year.
