Israel will provide further evidence to prove it is not responsible for a hospital bombing in the Gaza Strip that killed hundreds of people. Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus, a spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces, told CNN Tuesday evening.
Conricus said Israel has already provided the drone footage to international media, and they plan to release more information about the intercepted conversation between Palestinian militants. According to Israel, it was their missile that misfired.
Conricus added that the IDF checked its own systems to confirm that they did not fire at the site and that there were no Israeli misfires.
Conricus said an investigation into the explosion showed that Islamic Jihad fired missiles at northern or central Israel and at least one of them misfired, landed on the ground and exploded.
Conricus also denied claims that the explosion could have been the result of an interception of the iron dome that caused the missile to explode.
“That is not true, and we do not intercept missiles over Gaza,” he said.
“We have confirmed, and our entire command supports this, that this was not an IDF attack. It was a misfire of an Islamic Jihad missile that landed and likely caused this explosion,” an Israeli official said.
Authorities have already briefed the US military about this intelligence ahead of US President Joe Biden’s visit to Israel on Wednesday, Conricus said.
