The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will strengthen its presence at all Ukrainian nuclear power plants to secure the energy infrastructure. This was announced by the head of the IAEA Rafael Grossi on Twitter.
He posted a joint photo with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, noting that work on creating a safe zone around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant continues.
“I also confirmed that the IAEA will strengthen its presence at all nuclear power plants in Ukraine to protect their energy infrastructure,” Grossi wrote.
Last week, November 23, in Istanbul passed meeting of the heads of the IAEA and Rosatom Rafael Grossi and Alexei Likhachev on the situation around the ZNPP. The IAEA press service noted that the parties, among other things, discussed the creation of a safe zone around the station.
November 25 Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov informedthat Russia is negotiating with the agency on international monitoring of compliance with the agreements on the protective zone near the ZNPP. Back in mid-October, Grossi allowed the creation of a safe zone around the facility before the end of the year.
Contacts between the IAEA and Moscow and Kyiv have intensified against the background of the resumption of strikes on the ZNPP from the Ukrainian side on November 19 and 20. Grossi called for an immediate halt to the shelling of the station. At the same time, he declaredthat it is difficult for IAEA specialists to determine who strikes at an object. “Our main goal is to stop this, not play whistleblower,” he said.
The Kremlin also expressed concern about the situation around the ZNPP. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov once again stressed that the station was shelled by the Ukrainian military. He declaredthat all countries of the world need to influence Kyiv so that the Ukrainian side stops attacking the station.
