The IAEA explained the transportation of fuel by Kiev from the Rivne nuclear power plant to Chernobyl

The Ukrainian authorities have informed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about the transport of spent fuel from the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) to a storage facility in Chernobyl. This statement was made on Monday, June 19, in the press service of the agency.
The IAEA confirmed that the transport of spent fuel from operating nuclear power plants in Ukraine to the site of the centralized spent nuclear fuel storage site in Chernobyl was resumed after a break of more than a year.
At the same time, the agency assured that it received advance notification from Kyiv in accordance with the safeguards agreement with Ukraine, while all necessary safeguards measures and verification activities were carried out by the IAEA.
Earlier, the director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergei Naryshkin, said that Ukraine had decided to send a batch of irradiated fuel from the Rovno nuclear power plant for processing. He emphasized that the irradiated fuel received from the nuclear power plant contains a large number of highly radioactive materials.
The head of the Foreign Intelligence Service noted that the burial in Chernobyl is only a pretext for transporting fuel, but in reality Ukraine can continue working on a “dirty nuclear bomb” against the background of failed counteroffensive attempts.
