Crimea plans to restore water supply from the Dnieper through the North Crimean Canal, said the head of the Crimean parliament Vladimir Konstantinov. Based on the results of the special operation, the dam of the Kakhovka reservoir is planned to be reconstructed. In the meantime, there is no dam, you can pump Dnieper water into the canal. We asked hydropower engineer, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor of RUDN University Vladimir Tetelmin to comment on this message.

“Everything has been said correctly,” says Professor Vladimir Tetelmin. — If it is possible to raise the water level in the Kakhovka Reservoir, then this must be done. The soil part of the dam was not damaged, there is no need to build anything there. It is necessary to restore its concrete part, the head. Increase the concrete by 4-5 meters to raise the water level in the reservoir. The path is not even up to the design level at which its constant operation took place. And then the water will flow by gravity into the North Crimean Canal. This is beneficial in every way. The water area that has disappeared today will be restored. And then it will be easier for our military to defend themselves, to defend themselves.

If it is not yet possible to reconstruct the dam due to the military situation, then, according to the professor, we can try to pump Dnieper water into the canal.

The head of the Crimean parliament, Vladimir Konstantinov, clarified that for this it is necessary to restore the water intake, pumping stations, and carry out the necessary hydraulic work.

— While there is “shallow” water, in fact, it is only slightly wider than the natural bed of the Dnieper. There really needs to be a water intake installed there. It’s not that hard to do. Any city is supplied with water from a water intake. They simply make a deepening, install pumps and pump water. In this case, it is also possible to install three or four powerful pumps there, and water from the Dnieper will flow into the North Crimean Canal. There are pumps with very high performance up to 10 thousand cubic meters per hour. Our domestic industry produces them. These are not some turbines that we bought, for example, in Italy for pumping gas through gas pipelines. There are complex structures there, and now we are slowly mastering them and producing them.

The pipes, according to the hydropower engineer, will stretch 50 meters, or at most 100.

— The pipes there need to be short, only to pour water over the head of the North Crimean Canal. Their diameter doesn’t matter. It’s possible to do all this. I think that our specialists are already working on all this. And if the head of the Crimean parliament Vladimir Konstantinov said about this, then there are already some developments.
