A new head of state has been elected in Hungary. This was Tamás Szuyok, who previously served as Chairman of the Hungarian Constitutional Court.
Presidential elections in Hungary are indirect – the head of state is determined by the national parliament. The voting during which Shuyok’s candidacy was approved took place on Monday evening, February 26.
Former Hungarian President Katalin Nowak announced her resignation on February 10 amid a scandal involving the pardon of a pedophile offender. The politician admitted that she had made a serious mistake and decided to leave her post. Parliament accepted Novak’s resignation.
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the change of head of state in Hungary, said that the Kremlin has not yet made a decision regarding Should we congratulate the new Hungarian leader on his appointment?.
