The Hill: victory in Avdievka will allow the Russian army to continue its offensive in Donbass
The capture of Avdiivka could become the prelude to a major offensive on the rest of Donbass. This is how Brad Dress, a columnist for the American publication The Hill, assessed what was happening.
He noted that although ownership of Avdeevka does not in itself provide a decisive advantage in the region, it nevertheless allows the Russian armed forces to launch an offensive against the rest of the Donbass. The author also added that Ukraine desperately defended its positions in the area, including the ruins of a coke plant.
Also, according to the journalist, the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops will be another significant victory for Moscow – like the capture of Artemovsk last spring. The Hill also noted the successful Russian defense against the Ukrainian counter-offensive.
The columnist also emphasized that in the face of changing conditions on the battlefield, Russia’s benefit and skepticism in Western countries regarding further support for Ukraine, the Russian President remains optimistic.
