The head of the pro-Russian administration of the Zaporozhye region, Yevgeny Balitsky, appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin with a request to accept the region into the Russian Federation. About it informs TASS with reference to the document.

The appeal says that the choice to join Russia was made by the residents of Zaporozhye at a referendum that took place in the part of the region controlled by the Russian Federation from September 23 to 27. According to the agency, the document is dated September 28.

On the eve of Balitsky said that the Zaporozhye region de facto separated from Ukraine. He clarified that the authorities had already applied for entry into Russia.

On September 27, five-day referendums on the issue of joining the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions were completed. According to the results of counting 100% of the ballots, in the DPR and LPR, joining Russia was supported by 99.23% and 98.42% of those who voted, respectively, in Zaporozhye and Kherson regions – 93.11% and 87.05%, respectively.

As follows from the law “On the procedure for admission to the Russian Federation and the formation of a new subject of the Russian Federation in its composition”, an appeal to the president is the first step in accepting territories. After that, the head of state notifies the Federation Council, the State Duma and the Government of the appeal. International treaties must be signed in the State Duma, which will later be approved by the Federation Council.

Earlier today with a request to Vladimir Putin to accept new regions into Russia turned heads of the LPR and the Kherson region. The head of Kherson, Vladimir Saldo, proposed to accept the region as part of Russia and form a new subject in its composition – the Kherson region.

In addition, the heads of the DPR and LPR Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik left to Moscow to complete the legal part of the entry of the republics into Russia. The day before, on September 27, the heads of the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions announced a similar intention.

Also today, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin proposed to make adjustments to the schedule of the State Duma. He said that an unscheduled meeting of the State Duma would be held on October 3 in order to make the necessary decisions following the results of referendums in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. “The president’s decisions must be backed up by law,” Volodin stressed.
