The head of the RDIF, Kirill Dmitriev, on the sidelines of the UN climate conference in Dubai (COP28) said that the Russian side will promote projects aimed at increasing the natural absorption of carbon dioxide. Such solutions, he said, are 10-20 times cheaper than technological industrial developments to capture CO2 emissions and can provide more than 40% of the cost-effective measures required by 2030 to meet the goals and objectives of the Paris Agreement.

To take into account such projects and attract investment in them, it will be necessary to create a system of carbon loans and their recognition abroad – in the context of the refusal of a number of companies that carried out certification and verification of projects to work in the Russian market, the Russian side is counting on mutual recognition of loans within the BRICS framework – this The measure is also relevant for other developing countries, notes Kirill Dmitriev.

According to him, the countries of the association already have an understanding of the need for such a mechanism, and sovereign funds can play a large role in the negotiation process.
