The physical integrity of the Zaporizhzhya NPP was violated several times, but it is still impossible to establish whether this happened by accident or intentionally. This was stated by the director of the International Atomic Safety Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi to journalists after visiting the station, video clip published Telegram channel of Ukrainian Energoatom.

“It is clear that the station and its physical integrity have been violated several times, whether by accident or on purpose – we do not have the necessary elements to assess this,” he said.

Grossi noted that, together with the experts, he inspected emergency systems, generators, block shields of power units, etc., and also talked with the staff and local residents. He also said that one of the IAEA groups would remain at the ZNPP until Sunday or Monday, then a permanent presence of the organization’s members would be organized there.

The IAEA mission arrived at the territory of the Zaporozhye NPP yesterday from the Ukrainian-controlled city of Zaporozhye. A cortege of nine cars drove into the station at about 14:15 Moscow time. Prior to this, the Ukrainian side continued shelling Energodar, where the nuclear power plant is located. Grossi noted that the purpose of the mission is to prevent a nuclear accident. Among the experts who went to the station, there are no inspectors from Russia, Great Britain and the USA. On the same day, Grossi left the station, leaving 8 members of the IAEA mission and four escorts at the nuclear power plant. This was announced by the head of the CAA Energodar Alexander Volga.

In the morning before the arrival of the IAEA specialists, the head of Energodar’s military administration Oleksandr Volga said that the armed forces of Ukraine (AFU) had attempted to land troops near the city in the Russian-controlled territory of the Zaporozhye region. Also, Energodar was subjected to artillery shelling, as a result of which at least three people were killed.

The Russian Defense Ministry stated that army aviation was involved in the destruction of the Ukrainian landing force. The Russian military pointed to Kyiv’s attempts to disrupt the trip of IAEA specialists. During August, the station and Energodar were repeatedly shelled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the pro-Russian authorities and the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
