The head of the Human Rights Council Fadeev called for a tough response to the unrest in Dagestan

The head of the Russian Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights (HRC), Valery Fadeev, called on the authorities and society to react firmly to the unrest at Makhachkala airport.

“It seemed some time ago that anti-Semitism was a turned page in our history. <...> And now there are such unpleasant events in the Caucasus, this is very bad. Here the authorities must act within the framework of the law, extremely strictly, there must be some kind of explanatory policy, information policy,” he said (quote according to TASS).

Fadeev added that in this situation, public influence is also important. In his opinion, the population of Dagestan should “turn to these hooligans and bring them to their senses.” The head of the HRC noted that connecting events in Palestine with Jews living in the Caucasus is “simply madness.” He emphasized that Russian Jews are an integral part of the Caucasus.

On October 29, a crowd of activists burst into Makhachkala airport as a flight from Israel arrived there. As a result of the riots, more than 20 people were injured, both police and civilians. Two patients are in extremely serious condition, the Dagestan Ministry of Health reported. On the same day, the Federal Air Transport Agency announced the temporary closure of the airport.
