The head of Russian Railways, Oleg Belozerov, at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, spoke about new passenger cars with 2-meter shelves and wide aisles. They will be launched in December 2024.
“It differs from the previous one in that it is 30 cm wider, which means that the shelf will be longer: not 1.83 m, but two m. The traditional problem of walking through the carriage is that the passage in the carriage will be five cm wider. Additional personal space will appear,” said Oleg Belozerov (quoted from Kremlin website).
He added that Russian Railways have made progress in creating modular stations, which are produced in St. Petersburg and Chechnya. The installation period is four days, the service life is 50 years. The state company, according to Oleg Belozerov, plans to install 15 such stations.
At a meeting with Vladimir Putin, the head of Russian Railways also said that the freight intensity indicator is more than 30 million tons of cargo per kilometer of railway. Long-distance passenger turnover in 2023, as Mr. Belozerov said, increased by 12% year on year.
