There are three classic types of mentoring – individual, group and collective, and today there are dozens of ways to find a mentor, even from the Forbes list. The easiest way is through business communities. But to do this, you need to be a member of a closed club, preferably a premium one, which includes top managers of large corporations.

The membership fee for entrepreneurs in this case is from 500 thousand rubles. in year. There are also those where the entrance ticket will cost from 100 thousand rubles. But you won’t find serious business owners there. Although they are often invited as mentors for free, and then you can get into a group mentoring course.

However, individual consultations are the most effective way to enter a business segment that does not have its own developments, emphasizes Igor Rybakov, co-owner of the TechnoNIKOL company, founder of a closed club with personal mentoring: “Have I ever paid for mentoring? Of course yes.

For example, I once paid $250 thousand to Ruben Vardanyan to gain knowledge on how to create a family office. High fees should not be confusing, because the effect you get is disproportionately greater.

It was after that experience that I myself became a mentor to some businessmen. For $250 thousand, I accompany entrepreneurs for three months as part of their personal strategy and advise companies on business strategy.”

Another participant in the top 100 Forbes rating, the founder of the R-Pharm company, Alexey Repik, also had mentors at different times. Now he relies more on his own experience and sometimes advises entrepreneurs himself: “Sometimes making a decision without consulting anyone, without thinking, is extremely dangerous. Therefore, people sharing their experiences, in my case and in the case of many of my friends, played a significant role.

Mentoring is not about monetization, Kommersant FM’s interlocutors add. If businesses pay for mentoring, then all the money goes to charity and support of educational projects, adds Evgeniy Goltsman, co-founder of the Solomon.Help business club: “For example, we have a charity auction where we stage meetings with major businessmen. Such lots go for an average of $50 thousand. Among them was a breakfast with Viktor Vekselberg.

However, it is not necessary to choose a mentor from the Forbes list. If an entrepreneur has a turnover of 100 million rubles, then it will be of great benefit for him to communicate with a businessman whose revenue is 1 billion rubles. And for that one – with a colleague whose income is 10 billion rubles.”

The list of business mentors at different times included Mikhail Kusnirovich, Sergey Popov and Vagit Alekperov. Large businesses, if they find an opportunity for mentoring, do it for free, Kommersant FM’s interlocutors claim.

This, by the way, is the main condition for the Skolkovo Business School Mentor Association, for example: the mentor does not take money. But at the same time, he can get a share in projects, so the cooperation is mutually beneficial, notes the co-founder of the Club of the First, Maxim Karpov: “As a rule, venture investors very often become mentors. For them, this is a way, in essence, to look at an entrepreneur from a different perspective, whether it is possible to invest in him or not.

At the same time, monetization is indirect. That is, they do not charge money for meetings. But by investing their time, they get the opportunity to find a potential partner, or subsequently invest money in the project, or initiate a full-fledged partnership, when some business project is developed jointly between a mentor and a mentee.”

For startups and small and medium-sized businesses, finding a mentor, as it turns out, is not difficult. But what Russia lacks is mentoring for top executives. On the list of desired mentors for large businesses is, for example, the Dalai Lama. But, as the billionaires themselves share, it is not yet possible to find a way to a spiritual mentor at any cost.
