“I inform you that the government of the Russian Federation has approved the extension of Russia’s participation in the International Space Station program until 2028,” Borisov’s letter reads.
Letters were sent to NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, ESA Head Josef Aschbacher, CSA President Lisa Campbell and Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Keiko Nagaoka, the office said.
Borisov announced the decision to extend the operation of the Russian segment of the ISS until 2028 at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on April 12. He noted that “time is running fast” and Russia “shouldn’t have breaks in manned cosmonautics.” According to him, the industry’s financial position is stable, and the state corporation “understands where to go.”
Later, on April 14, Borisov at the Tsiolkovsky International Space Film and Program Festival toldthat the construction of the Russian orbital station will be fully completed in 2032. Then he noted that the preliminary construction of the station is estimated at 600 billion rubles.
