The head of Rosatom met with Grossi in Kaliningrad

Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev held a meeting in Kaliningrad with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, informed the press service of the Russian company in the Telegram channel. It is noted that consultations were held between the Russian delegation and the IAEA delegation on the situation at the Zaporozhye NPP.

“Alexey Likhachev informed the Director General of the IAEA about the steps that the Russian side is taking to ensure the safe operation of the Zaporizhzhya NPP,” follows from the message of Rosatom.

The press service added that the meeting participants discussed the state of affairs around Grossi’s initiative to ensure nuclear and physical safety at the station. Within the framework of this meeting, the readiness of Russia to continue work on its implementation was emphasized.

“Grossi was able to personally see the consequences of the shelling of the station, which took place in November last year after his last visit. As a positive, he noted the presence at the station of new Russian diesel generators and block-modular boiler houses,” Rosatom noted.

The fact that Grossi will meet with an interdepartmental delegation in Russia on April 5 to discuss the situation at the Zaporizhzhya NPP was previously informed Russia’s Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov.

On March 29, the IAEA delegation headed by Grossi arrived at the ZNPP. This is the second visit of the head of the IAEA to the station since the beginning of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine. During the trip, Grossi, together with the adviser to the General Director of the Rosenergoatom Concern, Renat Karchaa, inspected the territory of the Zaporizhzhya NPP. During the trip, the head of the IAEA declared about the intensification of hostilities around the ZNPP and called for measures to be taken to protect the station.

March 31 Grossi notedthat a nuclear incident at the ZNPP could lead to irreparable consequences for the whole world. Then he confirmed that he plans to arrive in Russia in a few days, where he will continue consultations.

Previously, the head of the IAEA came to Moscow on February 9th. Then Ulyanov said that Grossi had new ideas for the protective zone of the Zaporozhye NPP. The IAEA Director General began promoting the idea of ​​a demilitarized zone after visiting the ZNPP on September 1, 2022. On March 9, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov declaredthat the countries approached an agreement on the initiative, but it was blocked by the Ukrainian authorities. March 23 Grossi informedthat the IAEA abandoned the idea due to “territorial issues”.
