The head of Rosatom considered rumors about Hungary’s refusal of fuel from Russia to be a provocation

Media reports about Hungary’s intention to abandon Russian fuel for the Paks nuclear power plant are provocative rumors. This point of view expressed on the air of the Rossiya 24 TV channel, Rosatom General Director Alexey Likhachev.
“Now there are provocative rumors that Hungarians are abandoning Russian fuel. Why should they refuse? It is effective and very attractively priced,” Likhachev said.
Earlier, Telex reported, with reference to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, about the republic’s plans to convert the nuclear power plant in the city of Paks to French nuclear fuel instead of Russian. According to the publication, this intention is included in the list of 15 steps that the Hungarian Cabinet plans to implement by 2034.
Currently, at the nuclear power plant in the city of Paks, built using Soviet technology on the banks of the Danube near Budapest, there are four power units with VVER-440 reactors. The station generates approximately half of the country’s electricity production, providing about a third of consumption, and receives nuclear fuel from Russia.
