Chief Executive Officer of one of the largest manufacturers of tobacco products Philip Morris International Jacek Olczak suggested introducing a ban on cigarettes and setting a deadline for the decision to come into force. About this he informed in an interview with the Daily Mirror.
“Governments could cut smoking and health care costs if they supported tobacco companies in finding less unhealthy alternatives while setting a deadline for banning traditional cigarettes,” the report said.
According to him, alternatives should be offered to cigarettes, for example, in the form of vapes or tobacco heating systems. As an example, Olchak cited the decision to stop selling new cars with an internal combustion engine by 2030. Such devices account for 35% of the company’s total annual revenue, writes the Daily Mirror.
It is clarified that starting in 2016, Philip Morris seeks to retrain from the world’s largest tobacco company to a research center, on the basis of which assistance will be provided to those who cannot quit smoking. The company has already spent 8.5 billion pounds ($10.58 billion) for these purposes.
