The head of Gazprom Neft, Alexander Dyukov, said that sanctions pressure on the Russian oil industry will increase in 2023. According to him, in order to counter the restrictions of the domestic oil industry, it is necessary to develop its own infrastructure and tanker fleet.
“2023 will be no less difficult, maybe even more difficult. We expect the sanctions pressure to increase. And in this regard, the tasks that we set in 2022 remain relevant in 2023,” Mr. Dyukov said during the final board of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation (quote from Interfax).
According to him, it is necessary to start preparing now for tougher sanctions against the Russian oil industry. In particular, the head of Gazprom Neft called for special attention to be paid to the development of transport infrastructure, rail transport, pipeline transport, port facilities and the expansion of the tanker fleet. In addition, according to Mr. Dyukov, the creation of a financial system independent of Western institutions will also help neutralize the impact of sanctions.
Earlier, the International Energy Agency reported that Russia’s revenues from oil and gas exports in January 2023 fell by almost 40% and amounted to $18.5 billion against $30 billion that the country received in the same month last year. The main reason for the decline in revenues was the embargo on Russian oil, which came into force in December 2022. Now it is set at $60 per barrel.
