The head of a district in Transbaikalia resigned due to a dog attack on a child.

The head of the Chita region in Transbaikalia, Viktor Mashukov, resigned, announcing this today, December 1, in the Telegram channel. The reason for this decision is a criminal case initiated by the regional department of the Investigative Committee after a stray dog attacked a child.
“November 30 was my last working day in the Chita district administration. As of today, I retired. The reason was a criminal case due to a dog attack on a child in the village of Zasopka on November 29,”— commented Victor Mashukov.
He also noted that the duties of the head of the district were assigned to the first deputy, Vladimir Shadapov.
A nine-year-old boy who was attacked by a stray dog is currently in the regional children’s hospital. His condition is moderate. On this fact, a criminal case was initiated under Art. 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Negligence”). A report on the progress of the investigation of the case was required provide head of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin.
Earlier, in July, by a court decision, Viktor Mashukov was found guilty of negligence, due to which stray dogs repeatedly attacked people in the Chita region in 2021 and 2022. As a result, 29 people were injured, including 21 children. Mr. Mashukov was awarded a fine of 100 thousand rubles.
