Saskii Breines, a member of the city council of the Dutch city of The Hague, announced the plans of the municipality to ask for a temporary exemption from EU sanctions against Russia.
City officials are worried that compliance with the restrictions implies the termination of existing contracts with Russian companies until October 10. So far, however, The Hague has failed to replace the Russian gas supplier Gazprom.
“We will ask for an exception to our current agreement by January 1, 2023, to guarantee the security of supply and facilitate negotiations,” Breines said.
