The Grain Union allowed the loss of up to 15% of the grain harvest due to bad weather

Bad weather conditions in Russia can lead to the loss of about 15% of the total grain harvest, informs TASS with reference to the head of the Russian Grain Union (RGU) Arkady Zlochevsky.

“I’m looking at an average of losses by the sum of the factors in the region of 15%,” he said.

Now the yield is about 42.6 c/ha, the figures in 2021 for the same period were 31.8 c/ha. Zlochevsky believes that by the end of the year, the yield will drop to 36.1 centners per hectare.

Zlochevsky specified that as of August 4, 56.5 million tons of grain were harvested in Russia, which is 8 million tons less than the forecast. The reasons for the drop in crops are largely related to weather conditions – heavy rains led to the fact that the grain began to germinate, and this leads to losses during harvesting. Also, heavy rains made the grain moist, which means that when the grain is dried, it will lose a lot of weight.

August 5, head of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev declaredthat there are risks that will not allow reaching the mark of 130 million tons of crops in 2022. In Russia, according to Patrushev, intensive work is underway in all federal districts: 27% of the area has been harvested, 44 million tons of grain have been harvested. The reasons for the fall in the crop lie in its late harvest by farmers due to the cold spring, as well as the fact that the work is complicated by rain, high humidity and wind. Moreover, the load on agricultural machinery has been greatly increased and there are problems with the supply of foreign components for foreign machinery.
