On Sunday, Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb announced his arrival in Taiwan.
“I landed in Taipei to start an economic development trip to Taiwan and South Korea,” he wrote on social media.
In early August, Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi came to Taiwan.
Beijing, which considers Taiwan a province of China, considered such a move by a high-ranking American politician as support for separatism on the peninsula.
The Chinese army, after the departure of Pelosi, began major military exercises off the coast of Taiwan.
After Pelosi, members of the US Congress came to Taiwan.
