The government will allocate an additional 3.5 billion rubles. for the release of base stations to facilitate the transition to 5G networks for operators. About it informed Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a meeting with his deputies. Over the past three years, almost 12 billion rubles have been allocated for these purposes.

As Mr. Mishustin clarified, additional funds should provide cellular coverage on the domestic hardware base. It should also help achieve technological sovereignty and “give citizens the opportunity to use fast and reliable communications,” the authorities expect.

As Kommersant learned, the Russian television and radio broadcasting network (RTRS) opposed the allocation to telecom operators of frequencies in the 3.4-3.8 GHz band, which is recognized worldwide as promising for 5G, since now these frequencies are partially used to deliver TV satellite signal. If the frequencies are handed over to the operators, this will complicate the broadcasting of the first and second TV multiplexes, RTRS fears.
