The Government of the Russian Federation sent a directive to the Supervisory Board of Russian Post on the appointment of Mikhail Volkov as the company’s CEO. About it informs cabinet press office.
“The directive was signed by the head of the government apparatus, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko,” the press service said.
It is noted that now the board of directors of Russian Post should vote for the removal of CEO Maxim Akimov and support the appointment of Maxim Volkov to this post.
Later, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Property, Land and Property Relations Sergey Gavrilov confirmed the appointment of Volkov to the post of head of the Russian Post, welcoming him to this position. “I believe that this is absolutely the right, albeit inevitable, choice, because the post office is now facing a serious crisis due to Western sanctions. Now the question is about choosing a new model for the development of Russian Post,” he said.
Akimov has been in charge of Russian Post since 2020. Prior to that, as Deputy Prime Minister from 2018 to 2020, he oversaw communications, transport and the Digital Economy national program in the government.
Volkov currently holds the post of head of the National Lottery (Sports Lotteries brand, 48.4% owned by VTB). Prior to that, he had already worked at Russian Post: since 2017, he held the position of Deputy General Director for Operations, and in 2019 he became Deputy General Director for Operations and Retail.
