The government of Kazakhstan, headed by Alikhan Smailov, resigned, the relevant decree signed President of the Republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. It will act until the approval of the new composition of the Cabinet.

According to the current legislation of Kazakhstan, the president of the republic must submit the candidacy of the prime minister for consideration by the mazhilis after discussion with the factions of political parties in the lower house. After the approval of the deputies, the president appoints the prime minister, and then the members of the government on the proposal of the chairman of the government of Kazakhstan, made after consultations with the majilis.
Parliamentary elections were held in Kazakhstan on March 19. By data CEC, the ruling Amanat party received the majority of votes (53.9%). The Auyl, Respublica, Ak Zhol, People’s Party of Kazakhstan and the National Social Democratic Party also entered the parliament.
Voting took place according to a mixed system: 69 deputies are elected from party lists, and 29 from single-mandate constituencies, one from each. Elections to the Majilis of the republic were held ahead of schedule as part of the reforms carried out by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. On January 19, 2023, he dissolved the lower house of parliament and terminated the powers of maslikhats at all levels. On March 29, the first session of the parliament of the new convocation took place.
“Our reforms are based on the formula “a strong president – an influential parliament – an accountable government”, which is the basis of our state structure,” declared Tokayev during the first session of the again Parliament of Kazakhstan of the VIII convocation.
