The government has established the size of quotas for the import of beef and poultry meat into the Russian Federation

The government has approved the size of quotas for the import of beef and poultry meat into Russia in 2024, Interfax reported, citing the relevant resolution. According to the document, the beef import quota next year will be 570 thousand tons, including 40 thousand tons of fresh and chilled meat. The quota for the import of poultry meat will be 364 thousand tons, including 100 thousand tons of minced meat.

The document also states that 29 thousand tons of the quota for the import of fresh and chilled beef are distributed between the EU countries and the USA, 11 thousand tons fall on other countries. A quota of 530 thousand tons of frozen beef is also distributed between the EU and the USA – 60 thousand tons each, as well as Costa Rica – 3 thousand tons. Other countries account for 407 thousand tons.

According to the resolution, out of a quota of 100 thousand tons of minced poultry meat, 80 thousand tons are intended for supplies from the EU. It is noted that 250 thousand tons of poultry meat are half or quarter carcasses, 14 thousand tons are frozen boneless turkey meat.

Within the tariff quota for the import of frozen beef into the Russian Federation, the rate is 15%, outside it – 50%. As follows from Resolution No. 1812 of October 31, unclaimed volumes will be redistributed in an application manner – documents of those wishing to receive the benefit are accepted and reviewed by the Ministry of Economy. On November 7, Kommersant wrote that the need for a “redistribution” of unselected quotas between importers could be explained by payment problems due to the Russian military operation in Ukraine.
