The volume of Russian public debt at the end of 2023 amounted to 25.6 trillion rubles, or 15% of GDP. Over the year, it increased by 2.8 trillion rubles, or 12.2%, follows from the analytical note of the Accounts Chamber on the progress of execution of the federal budget (.pdf).

Domestic debt increased by 2 trillion rubles. (10.8%) and amounted to 20.8 trillion rubles. External debt in foreign currency amounted to $53.3 billion (RUB 4.8 trillion). It decreased by $4.1 billion (in ruble equivalent it increased by 743.9 billion rubles). Expenses for servicing the national debt in 2023 exceeded the figure approved in the budget law by 205 billion rubles. and amounted to 1.7 trillion rubles. This is 393.6 billion rubles. more than in 2022.

State domestic debt at the beginning of March 2024 amounted to 20.99 trillion rubles, follows from data Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation. At the beginning of 2022 it amounted to 16.5 trillion rubles, in 2023 – 18.8 trillion rubles, in 2024 – 20.8 trillion rubles. External debt at the beginning of March 2024 amounted to $53.2 billion.
