The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia expressed concern regarding information about the alleged location of a permanent base for the Russian Navy in Abkhazia, should from the ministry’s statement.

The President of Abkhazia in an interview with Izvestia reportedthat a new permanent base for the Russian Navy will be located on the Black Sea coast in Abkhazia. According to him, the agreement has already been signed. Later, the head of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security, Viktor Bondarev, said that this would increase the defense capability of the two countries.
The Kremlin did not comment on this statement. Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov clarifiedthat issues related to the deployment of units, ships and units are within the competence of the Ministry of Defense.
