This year, the United States has stepped up its strategic bomber activity near the borders of Russia and China. This was stated by the head of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces Igor Kostyukov at the XI Moscow Conference on International Security.
“Near the borders of Russia and China, the activity of US strategic bomber aviation has significantly intensified. This year, 77 sorties were made, which is already more than in the whole of 2022,” he said (cit. according to TASS).
According to Kostyukov, over the past two years, the intensity of flights by US strategic reconnaissance aircraft has grown by more than 20% and reached 920 sorties a year.
At the end of May, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that Russian Su-35s and Su-27p fighters were raised into the air to escort two US strategic bombers over the Baltic Sea, which were heading to the state border of Russia. As a result, the state border was not violated.
