According to the estimates of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, about 13,000 Belarusians from among the active and former military personnel are ready to fight for Russia against Ukraine, Deputy Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Aleksey Gromov said during a briefing.
“According to preliminary data, up to 13,000 people from Belarusian units signed an agreement to participate in the war against Ukraine,” he said.
According to Gromov, the main motive of Belarusians who want to fight against Ukraine is “material and financial”. He also accused Russia of “drawing” Belarus into the conflict in Ukraine.
Earlier, the head of the department of international military cooperation of the Belarusian Defense Ministry, Valery Revenko, said that his country supported Russia’s special operation in Ukraine based on allied obligations.
