The general designer explained why Zircons are not yet in service with the Russian Armed Forces

Hypersonic Zircon missiles must be operated for a certain period of time before being adopted by the Russian Armed Forces. Alexander Leonov, General Director and General Designer of NPO Mashinostroyenia (part of the Tactical Missile Weapons Corporation), spoke about this.
As Leonov emphasized, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has not yet issued an order for the adoption of Zircons into service by the Russian army, since this is “a slow procedure.”
The general designer also recalled that the tests of the hypersonic missile were not just carried out using the frigate “Admiral Gorshkov” – “Zircons” were installed on this ship.
Earlier, Daily Mail readers were surprised at how the Russians managed to create such powerful systems, allocating only a fraction of a percent of the American military budget. According to some commentators, the very fact that the Zircons were adopted by the Russian army “the West will already shut up”.
Western media also wrote that the Russian Federation continues to replenish its fleet with Yasen nuclear submarines, which are in NATO considered a “real threat” for the military-political bloc and Western forces. The deployment of Zircon hypersonic missiles on submarines will exacerbate this problem for members of the North Atlantic Alliance.
