Project 22350 Admiral Golovko missile frigate and Mercury corvette will join the Northern and Black Sea Fleets this year. This was reported in the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry.
“It is planned that this year the Admiral Golovko frigate will become part of the Northern Fleet, and the Mercury corvette will join the surface component of the Black Sea Fleet,” the message says (cit. according to TASS).
It is specified that the frigate Admiral Golovko, which was undergoing the third stage of testing in the Baltic Sea, tested the operation of air defense systems, as well as their control systems, radio equipment and communications equipment. Corvette “Mercury” is also at the final stage of testing in the Baltic Fleet.
Earlier, TASS sources reported that the frigate would be handed over to the Northern Fleet in March 2023, and the corvette, according to the most pessimistic scenarios, at the beginning of the year.
The frigate “Admiral Golovko” is named after Admiral Arseny Grigoryevich Golovko, who commanded the Northern Fleet during the Great Patriotic War. The vessel is the third hull of project 22350, which was built at Severnaya Verf (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation). The lead and first serial frigates “Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov” and “Admiral of the Fleet Kasatonov” are carriers of the Caliber-NK and / or Onyx cruise missiles. In 2021, the Admiral Gorshkov was modified to use the Zircon hypersonic missiles.
Corvette “Mercury” project 20380 was created to patrol the near and far sea zone, to fight surface ships, submarines and enemy aircraft. It is equipped with the Uran missile system, which has a range of up to 260 km.
