The French Senate adopted a resolution supporting the territorial integrity of Armenia. The senators also called for the introduction of sanctions against Azerbaijan in connection with its military operation in Nagorno-Karabakh. 336 senators voted for the draft resolution, only one member of the chamber spoke against it.
The text of the document demands that the government, together with its European allies, take diplomatic measures against Azerbaijan, responding to its repeated aggressive actions against Armenia. The authors of the resolution also propose a complete review of the EU’s relations with Azerbaijan and the introduction of sanctions, including the confiscation of funds of Azerbaijani leaders and an embargo on gas and oil supplies from this country in response to military aggression.
The document notes the violation of the territorial integrity of Armenia by Azerbaijan, and also indicates plans to create a transport corridor through the Zangezur ridge passing through Armenian territory. The senators emphasize France’s commitment to the territorial integrity of Armenia and demand the withdrawal of Azerbaijani forces from its territory, and also advocate the return of Armenians to Nagorno-Karabakh.
