Some readers of the newspaper Le Figaro skeptically commented on the plans of French President Emmanuel Macron to deprive Vladimir Putin of the Legion of Honor.
Internet users called the order a “chocolate medal”, saying that attempts to use it as a tool of pressure look “absurd”.
Putin received the highest rank of the Legion of Honor, Knight Grand Cross, in 2006 from French President Jacques Chirac. He became the first and by 2023 the only Russian to be awarded this award, established in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte.
