According to the former head of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), General David Petraeus, Washington is taking part in the conflict in Ukraine in order to secure its status as “the world’s leading superpower.”
In an interview with Fox News, Petraeus emphasized that the desire of the United States to take a leading position in the world is especially relevant in the agenda of the Ukrainian crisis.
“Supporting Ukraine is very important now, especially after the withdrawal of our troops from Afghanistan. This is how we show that the United States can and will dominate the world and that they have the desire to do so,” he said.
The former head of the CIA pointed out that Washington is providing Kyiv with “staggering assistance” – more than $19 billion in weapons equivalent and $13 billion in economic support over the past year.
