The risks of a military clash between Russia and NATO are growing. About it declared Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Alexander Grushko in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper.
“The risks, unfortunately, are increasing. Everyone understands this,” he said, recalling the fate of the Baltic region, which was once a calm region “militarily and politically”, but after 2004 “by the joint efforts of NATO [он] was turned into a zone of military rivalry.
According to Grushko, it is still too early to talk about the threat of placing nuclear weapons on Finnish territory after it joins NATO. He also noted that no official statements had been made by either Helsinki or Washington. At the same time, the Deputy Minister recalled that Finland had joined a bloc that described itself as a nuclear bloc.
April 4 to NATO entered Finland, becoming the 31st member of the alliance. Then Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto signed a document on the republic’s entry into the alliance. The ceremony was also attended by Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and Finnish Defense Minister Antti Kaikkonen.
On the same day, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov declaredthat Finland’s entry into the North Atlantic bloc leads to an aggravation of the situation in the world. Moscow considers the expansion of the alliance an encroachment on the security and national interests of the Russian Federation, he stressed. Peskov added that such steps are forcing Russia to take measures to ensure the country’s security.
