Representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova in an interview “RIA News” reported that the Russian diplomatic department is trying to convey to Armenia the risks of the country being drawn into an anti-Russian course.

“We understand perfectly well that the States and the collective West as a whole have been using tactics to treat countries and peoples as their tools for decades, centuries, under the guise of good intentions. If there were no such examples in our region, one would probably think that the United States and the collective West would not apply these tactics specifically to the post-Soviet space,” said Maria Zakharova.

According to her, Moscow’s only desire is to “warn Armenia.” She added that some of Moscow’s arguments were accepted and Armenia “even took some measures.” Maria Zakharova said that relations between the countries “have been tested for strength” and Moscow wants Armenia to maintain its sovereignty.

“It’s worth a lot. And these are not those endless blah-blah-blah, empty words, promises that, as they have always given historically, many Western countries give to Armenia, Yerevan that they will protect, help, and so on. And for some reason they will protect us from Russia, which truly stopped the bloodshed, which truly gave financial and economic assistance, without demanding anything in return and without exposing it to enslaving conditions, which became home to a huge number of families, citizens, people, and professional interests. “- said the representative of the diplomatic department.

Relations between Armenia and Russia have cooled greatly. At a press conference following the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated collapse in Russian-Armenian relations, warning for the first time that Moscow could “reconsider a lot” and take “practical steps” in response to Yerevan’s friendship with “the enemies of Russia.”
