Russia does not see unsolvable tasks in the implementation of the contract for the supply of Turkey with the second regiment of S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems, although some countries are introducing restrictive measures against the Russian Federation, declared Yury Pilipson, Director of the Fourth European Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“As you know, individual states apply a whole range of restrictive measures against Russia, but not to protect democracy and human rights, but to eliminate a competitor in the large arms market … We do not see any unsolvable tasks on the way to the implementation of this project.” he said.

The diplomat also pointed out the need to observe “information hygiene” in the public space on this issue and did not answer the question in what currency the transaction will be settled.

A framework contract for the supply of four divisions of the S-400 system to Turkey worth about $2.5 billion was concluded in 2017, and the first two systems were delivered in 2019. Since then, negotiations have continued between Turkey and Russia on the order and delivery of the remaining two systems. The decision of the Turkish side caused criticism and pressure from the United States.

After the live firing of Turkish S-400s in the fall of 2020, the United States at the end of 2020 imposed sanctions against the Turkish Defense Industry Directorate and its head Ismail Demir, and in the spring of 2021 they finally excluded Turkey from the F-35 program – the country had previously been a partner of the Americans in this program from the very beginning, ordering 100 aircraft, and the Turkish industry produced some of its elements.
