Russia is expelling the chief correspondent of the Bulgarian National Radio in Moscow, Angel Grigorov, in connection with similar actions by the Bulgarian authorities against Rossiyskaya Gazeta journalist Alexander Gatsak. About it reported Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
Grigorov was ordered to surrender his accreditation certificate and leave Russia. The Foreign Ministry clarified that this decision was made in response to the persecution of Gatsak by the Bulgarian authorities with the involvement of special services and the deprivation of his accreditation.
The Russian department allowed a review of the decision regarding Grigorov in the event that the Bulgarian government returns accreditation to the Rossiyskaya Gazeta journalist in Sofia.
October 31 “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” reportedthat the Russian Embassy in Sofia received a notification from the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry, which stated that Gatsak’s accreditation was canceled and his expulsion. The reasons for this decision were not specified, the publication noted.
November 1 Bulgarian State National Security Agency statedthat the journalist left the country. The department cited “activities that pose a threat to the national security” of the republic as the reason for the expulsion. They emphasized that such a measure is aimed “at protecting national security, and not at restricting freedom of speech and expression.”
