The Russian delegation did not plan to join the upcoming Munich Conference in 2023, even if it were invited, Russia lost interest in the “forum that has lost its objectivity”. This was stated in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The diplomatic department “drawed attention to a tweet” by the head of the Munich Security Conference, Christoph Heusgen, in which he noted that Russian officials would not be invited to the meeting of the IBC in 2023, and also mentioned the desire to “discuss the future of Russia” with the leaders of the “Russian opposition and exiles.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, “this is a blatant violation of the principles of the UN Charter and the 1975 Helsinki Final Act of the CSCE on non-interference in internal affairs.”
Representatives of the department believe that the refusal to dialogue, the unwillingness or fear to hear the Russian point of view and to discuss the likely options for overcoming the most severe crisis in Europe since the end of World War II are unusual qualities for a diplomat, “who once was Mr. Heusgen.”
