The Foreign Ministry announced the loss of interest in the Munich Conference

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the country will not take part in the Munich Security Conference (ICD), which will take place in 2023, due to the loss of the last “objectivity and equidistance”. About this “RIA Novosti” reported in the department.

“Once again we are forced to state with regret that in recent years the Munich Conference has turned into a purely transatlantic forum, has lost its inclusiveness, objectivity and equidistance to speakers from its rostrum. Interest in Moscow for this event has disappeared, ”the Foreign Ministry said.

Thus, the Russian Foreign Ministry reacted to the post of chairman of the Munich Conference Christoph Heusgen on Twitter, in which he stated that Russian officials would not be invited to the IBC meeting in 2023. Instead, he intends to “discuss the future of Russia” with the leaders of the “Russian opposition and exiles.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry called this statement “an open violation of the principles of the UN Charter and the Helsinki Final Act of the CSCE (Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe. – Vedomosti) of 1975 on non-interference in internal affairs.” The department also stressed that the unwillingness to engage in dialogue with Moscow is “an unusual quality for a diplomat, who once was Mr. Heusgen.”

“The confrontational policy of Western countries towards Russia, attempts to exclude it from the dialogue, in general to build a security architecture in Europe without Russia, only create new lines of tension, deepening the protracted split on the common continent. This clearly does not meet the fundamental interests of the Europeans,” the Foreign Ministry stressed.

Russia has already refused to take part in the ICD. In particular, this year the event was held on February 18-20, but none of the Russian representatives were present there. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, then also drew attention to the fact that the platform has lost its inclusiveness and objectivity. In 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin also did not take part in the conference, which was held online.
