The Foreign Ministry announced a tough conversation with the ambassadors of the United States, Great Britain and Canada

The conversation with the ambassadors of the United States, Great Britain and Canada summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry a day earlier took place in a “tough tone,” Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the country’s Foreign Ministry, said on Sputnik radio.

“Yesterday they were summoned to the Foreign Ministry, everything was explained to them, and so in a harsh tone, without any, you know, desire to soften something, somehow slow down, no, of course,” quotes Zakharov RIA Novosti.

The ambassadors were summoned because of their unacceptable statements after the sentencing of Vladimir Kara-Murza (included in the register of foreign agents). According to Zakharova, if they continue to behave in this way, their behavior will be recorded as not corresponding to the declared status.

The day before, April 18, the Russian Foreign Ministry had caused ambassadors of the United States, Canada and Great Britain in the country due to “gross interference” in the affairs of Russia, as well as due to the implementation of activities that do not correspond to diplomatic status. To British Ambassador Deborah Bronnert Russian Foreign Ministry expressed a strong protest in connection with her statements after the sentencing of Vladimir Kara-Murza. She was pointed out that Moscow regards the calls of foreign diplomats to cancel the verdict of the Russian court as gross interference in the internal affairs of the country.

Also US Ambassador to Russia Lynn Tracy was declared a strong protest against statements in support of Kara-Murza after he was sentenced. The Foreign Ministry recalled that any attempts to incite hostility in Russian society would be stopped, and the diplomatic mission staff who contributed to this would be expelled from the country. The Foreign Ministry also called the attempts to “shield the ‘agent of influence’ supervised by Washington and other Western capitals as ridiculous and hypocritical.

A similar demarche was declared and Canadian Ambassador to Russia Alison LeClair. The Foreign Ministry warned of a deterioration in bilateral relations between Moscow and Ottawa if Canada continues to interfere in the internal affairs of Russia and take “actions accompanied by a frenzied Russophobic campaign launched by official Ottawa, as well as the announcement of the strategic goal of Canadian foreign policy is “regime change in Russia”.

Zakharova warnedthat the Russian authorities will stop the actions of representatives of the Western countries, which are aimed at inciting hostility in Russian society, and the diplomats involved in this work may be expelled from Russia.

Moscow City Court April 17 sentenced Kara-Murza to 25 years in prison in the case of treason, discrediting the army and participation in the activities of an undesirable organization, as well as to restriction of freedom for a period of six months and a fine of 400,000 rubles.
