Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Sergey Naryshkin received information that Kyiv could continue to work on the creation of a “dirty bomb” – a munition with radioactive substances, which, in the event of an explosion, could lead to radiation contamination of the territory. This is stated in the message of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia, writes “RIA News”.
Thus, the SVR reacted to the information received that the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine decided to send a batch of irradiated fuel from the Rivne NPP for reprocessing. Two containers with fuel have already been sent to the storage site in Chernobyl. At the same time, the State Inspectorate did not notify the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of its decision.
October 23 RIA Novosti, citing sources in different countries reportedthat Kiev is preparing a provocation in Ukraine related to the detonation of a “dirty bomb”, or a low-yield nuclear weapon, the purpose of which is to accuse the Russian Federation of using weapons of mass destruction and launch a “powerful anti-Russian campaign” in the world.
At the Russian Ministry of Defense later confirmed this information. The department noted that they had prepared forces and means in case of such a provocation, the purpose of which is to blame Russia and cause another aggravation of the conflict in Ukraine. In November, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said that agency staff found no signs of working on a “dirty bomb” in Ukraine.
