The first ship with Russian fertilizers headed from the Netherlands to Africa

The first ship with 20,000 tons of Russian fertilizer left the port of the Netherlands and headed for Africa, informed Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for the UN Secretary General.

“The first shipment – 20,000 tons of fertilizer – departed from the Netherlands on a chartered WFP [Всемирной продовольственной программой] vessel MV Greenwich today and is heading to Malawi via Mozambique,” ​​the report said (cited by RIA Novosti).

The UN noted that they welcome the transfer of Russian fertilizers for humanitarian needs on a gratuitous basis. In total, Russia will transfer about 260,000 tons of fertilizers to needy countries.

Permission for a ship with 20,000 tons of fertilizer to leave the port of Rotterdam in Malawi was received 11th of November. It was clarified that the Dutch government decided to approve the shipment after receiving a request from the UN. The country’s Foreign Ministry said that the cargo should be sent to Malawi through the UN WFP.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stressed that Russia is ready for free hand over countries in need of fertilizer and render assistance to those facing food shortages. However, this is hampered by sanctions that have not yet been lifted. According to him, because of this, Russia, despite the fact that the supply of fertilizers has been unblocked, is still unable to send its products to developing countries through European ports.

November 17 Russian Foreign Ministry informedthat the participants in the grain deal, including Russia, extended its validity by 120 days. Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that the extension of the agreement took into account the concerns that Moscow had previously expressed. “There is an assurance from the UN that the work to ensure Russian exports of food, grain and fertilizers will be finalized. This work has its results,” he said.

On July 22, representatives of Turkey and the UN signed separate agreements with representatives of Russia and Ukraine on the export of Ukrainian grain, as well as on assistance in the export of Russian grain and fertilizers. However, the Russian authorities soon accused the West of non-compliance with the second part of the agreement, which concerns the memorandum between Russia and the UN. At the same time, the UN said that they were working to remove restrictions that hinder the export of Russian grain and fertilizers.
