The first dry cargo ship from Odessa entered the Bosphorus after the termination of the grain deal

The container ship Joseph Schulte, which left the port of Odessa on August 16, reached the Bosphorus. About it informs TV channel NTV.

The ship arrived at the Turkish port of Ambarli near Istanbul on the evening of 17 August. The route of the cargo ship is not specified. The TV channel notes that this is the first ship with agricultural products that reached the strait after Russia withdrew from the grain deal.

August 16 Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov informedthat the container ship Joseph Schulte under the flag of Hong Kong left the port of Odessa on August 16 and is heading for the Bosphorus. The ship is carrying more than 30,000 tons of cargo, including food, he said. According to the minister, the ship has been in port since February 23, 2022.

On August 10, the Ukrainian Navy announced temporary corridors in the Black Sea for merchant ships heading from or to the ports of Chornomorsk, Odessa and Yuzhny. 12th of August was open registration of merchant ships that are ready to pass on temporary routes.

The grain deal was concluded on July 22, 2022 by representatives of Turkey and the UN, on the one hand, and representatives of Russia and Ukraine, on the other. As part of the negotiations, two agreements were signed between Moscow and Kiev. The first is for the export of Ukrainian grain from three ports, including Odessa, Yuzhny and Chornomorsk, the second is for assistance in the export of Russian grain and fertilizers. On July 17, 2023, Russia withdrew from the “Black Sea Initiative”, citing the failure to fulfill part of the agreements relating to the Russian Federation.

July 19 Russian Ministry of Defense announced all ships going to the ports of Ukraine as potential military targets. This decision was made in connection with the termination of the “Black Sea Initiative” and the curtailment of the maritime humanitarian corridor.
